Maureen McCormick's number is on the speed dials of celebrities, financial and technology moguls, and other movers and shakers from La Jolla to Sacramento and far beyond. Just don't ask her to mention names: her reputation for discretion is as prized as her real estate expertise.
The McCormick name has long been on the short list of the most skilled and respected agents on LA's upscale Westside. Maureen and her late husband, John, consistently ranked as multi-million-dollar producers over two decades, building a wide and loyal following in Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica and Malibu.
These days, Maureen is working with a new partner — one who brings a lifelong knowledge of the territory and her own formidable set of skills to McCormick clients.
Born and raised in Santa Monica, Maureen's daughter Mimi grew up in the real estate business. After graduating from UC Berkeley, she embarked on a career in the nonprofit sector, working for UCLA, The Getty, and most recently the downtown Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, where she was Director of Operations.
As partners in real estate, the two professionals deliver an incomparable level of representation. Their clients benefit from Maureen's vast network of contacts, formidable negotiation skills and multimedia marketing savvy as well as Mimi's own valuable contacts, art and architecture background, and executive class business skills. "Marketing and selling a home today requires staying on top of a huge array of crucial details," says Mimi. "The skills I drew on as an operations director translate directly to the challenges of orchestrating successful outcomes for our buyers and sellers."
Both women are as committed to their community as they are to their clients. Maureen has served on the Board of the Ocean Park Community Centers' Turning Point and currently lends her support to UCLA's Neuroncology Art of the Brain, the Dashew International Center, and Para Los Niños. Mimi has been actively involved in downtown LA's Grand Avenue revitalization and served as an independent consultant to the UCLA Anderson School of Management, Beacon Economics, and City Projects. In 2005, she received the Women in Leadership Award from the West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce for her work with MOCA at the Pacific Design Center.
Maureen has seen radical changes in her market since she and John first launched their business. "I've watched Brentwood evolve from a provincial, local community to an international destination," says Maureen. "Generating global exposure for our properties is now a top priority, and highly sophisticated online marketing is a key part of our mix."
Other things will never change. "Some of my mother's most valuable skills are also the most subtle ones," says Mimi. "She's so finely attuned to people. She radiates a calming influence that draws all the parties together and inspires confidence. One of the things that define her is civility. It influences her approach to both our clients and our professional colleagues. When someone is relying on you to help with such a major emotional and financial investment, that's a very solid place to start."
